In this webinar, Dan Borneo and Ben Schenkman from Sandia National Laboratories will present lessons learned from the portfolio of projects that Sandia is involved with. Panelists will discuss project initiation, application determination, power and energy requirements, design, and installation, as well as other aspects of a successful energy storage project such as commissioning, system testing, codes and standards, data acquisition, and operations. This presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Presenters:

Dan Borneo, Sandia National Laboratories

Ben Schenkman, Sandia National Laboratories

Moderator: Todd Olinsky-Paul, Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA)

This webinar is a presentation of the Energy Storage Technology Advancement Partnership (ESTAP). In the case of Illinois, the state passed far-reaching energy legislation. It will lead to more clean energy generation by revising how alternative retail electricity suppliers comply with the RPS, and adding new procurements and programs administered by the Illinois Power Agency. It also creates a zero emission credit (ZEC) program that will help keep two nuclear plants in operation. The Michigan law extends the existing RPS, which reached its maximum 10 percent target in 2015, so that now utilities have to buy or generate at least 15 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2022. The law also expands eligible technologies to include geothermal, steam, wood biomass, and others. In addition, the state now has a nonbinding goal to try to meet 35 percent of the state’s electricity needs through energy efficiency and renewables by 2025.

In this webinar, Brian Granahan of the Illinois Power Agency and Katie Trachsel of the Michigan Public Service Commission will describe their states’ new laws and explain how the states are preparing for implementation.

This webinar is presented by CESA's RPS Collaborative. DER devices include batteries, PV, and even aggregated hot water heaters or building lighting systems. At the core of this transformation are the services that these DER can provide to the grid. Presently each device type is siloed into its market or program, and the same services can receive different compensation based on what device is providing it. To start to break down this market inefficiency, the Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) is leading an effort to solve the technical challenges to compare very different DER devices on their ability to supply each grid service.

In this webinar, guest speakers from GMLC will discuss the drivers behind this research, the technical problems that need solving, and their progress so far in the areas of battery and photovoltaic systems.

Panelists:

David Rosewater, Sandia National Laboratories

Sudipta Chakraborty, National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Moderator: Todd Olinsky-Paul, Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA)

This webinar is a presentation of the Energy Storage Technology Advancement Partnership (ESTAP). The webinar will explain how solar+storage can benefit LMI residents and will describe a variety of policy tools for doing so, including grants, rebates, utility procurement standards, financing support, opening markets, and soft cost reductions. The webinar will be based on a forthcoming CESA guide on the subject authored by Todd Olinsky-Paul. The guide will be released in early March.

This webinar is a presentation of CESA's Sustainable Solar Education Project.
Thu, 09 Feb 2017 15:59:24 -0500 http://www.cleanenergyfunds.org/webinars/solar-storage-for-lmi-communities/?date=2017-03-16 Solar+Storage Industry Perspectives: JLM Energy http://www.cleanenergyfunds.org/webinars/solar-storage-industry-perspectives-jlm-energy/?date=2017-03-22
Clean Energy Group’s Resilient Power Project is kicking off a series of presentations featuring experts from around the solar+storage industry. In this webinar, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory researcher Ian Hoffman will discuss low-income energy efficiency, including how programs can be tailored to different segments of the low-income population. After considering the demographic composition of low-income populations, Ian will discuss different ways that energy efficiency has been delivered to different segments of the population, including those in multifamily vs. single-family housing, as well as what obstacles have been encountered and what new solutions are proposed.

Panelist: Ian Hoffman, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Moderator: Warren Leon, Clean Energy States Alliance

The research presented in this webinar, and the webinar itself, are supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative.
